Project partners, stakeholders, and supporters gathered in Crosslake for a special beam signing ceremony at the National Loon Center on September 18, 2026.
The event marked another major milestone in the construction of the National Loon Center, a project that has steadily progressed from concept to reality over the past decade. Attendees had the opportunity to sign a large structural wood beam before it was hoisted into place by an onsite construction crane, becoming a permanent part of the building’s framework.
There was a sense of excitement and pride as signatures, messages, and well wishes covered the beam. Moments later, attendees watched as the crane carefully lifted it above the construction site and into its final position, symbolizing both the progress already made and the collective effort required to bring the National Loon Center to life.
The beam signing ceremony represents more than a construction milestone. It serves as a reminder of the countless individuals, organizations, donors, volunteers, and project partners who have contributed to making the National Loon Center a reality. What began as an ambitious vision has become an emerging landmark that will inspire visitors through education, conservation, research, and immersive experiences centered around one of Minnesota’s most iconic birds.
