The Nameless Coalition for the Homeless operates two locations in Bemidji, MN, providing essential support for those in need. One of these, the Day Center on 15th Street NW, was not ADA-compliant, the roof leaked, and the parking lot’s poor grading caused dangerous ice buildup in the winter. To continue serving the community as a low-barrier access facility, the Day Center needed major improvements.
Executive Director Reed Olson and his team secured two grants to fund these much-needed upgrades. Widseth provided architectural and engineering services to bring the project to life. Reflecting on the collaboration, Reed said, “We’re very happy to work with Widseth. They helped us a lot. We wouldn’t have had the capacity or competency to do it on our own. Having a local team who knows who we are and how we fit into the community was really helpful.”
With these investments, the Day Center has been transformed from an aging, non-compliant structure into a safe, fully functional facility that will serve the community for decades. “We’re really proud that we took a building that was pretty much unusable in the private sector and made it viable again. Now, we have a facility that will be usable for the next 30 years,” Reed said.
