Today is Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day, part of National Engineers Week (February 22–28, 2026). To celebrate, we’re excited to share a short video featuring civil engineering intern Hannah Atwater and her experience working with Widseth this past summer.
Hannah’s interest in engineering began with a strong foundation in math and science, but it was civil engineering’s direct impact on the communities we live in that ultimately drew her in. She is especially motivated by the role infrastructure plays in shaping safe, thriving communities.
Throughout her internship, Hannah has had the opportunity to experience a wide range of projects both in and out of the office. “One of the best parts of my internship has been the variety,” Hannah shared. “I’ve gotten to work on traffic safety design and spend time out in the field. Being up close to equipment like a backhoe has been a lot of fun, and everyone here has been incredibly helpful.”
Hannah was initially introduced to Widseth through a personal connection and quickly discovered that the positive things she had heard about the company culture reflected her own experience. Support from colleagues and the willingness of team members to answer questions have helped make her internship both educational and enjoyable. She plans to transfer to the University of North Carolina at Charlotte to continue pursuing her civil engineering degree.
To hear from other Widseth interns, check out our Video Series and listen as architectural, engineering, and surveying students share what makes Widseth a great place to begin their careers in the AEC industry.
