Charlie Melcher brings more than 35 years of expertise in civil engineering to projects across the Midwest.

Throughout his career, Charlie has worked at MnDOT, engineering companies, construction firms, and materials testing organizations on a wide range of civil engineering projects. Charlie has represented city and private land development clients for over 400 projects in Minnesota and Wisconsin, ranging from sketch plans, entitlements, city approvals and construction project management.

He has four years’ city consulting engineer experience, designing complete street reconstruction projects, lift stations for storm sewer and sanitary sewer, stormwater/sanitary sewer separation systems, rural ditch cleaning designs and permitting, and watermain extensions. His land development portfolio includes single-family and multi-family residential developments, senior housing complexes, apartments, retail spaces, redevelopment of contaminated industrial sites, and manufacturing facilities.

Charlie’s expertise in geotechnical engineering has led to complex pavement correction designs using geogrid, innovative stormwater treatment trains/infiltration designs and evaluating geotechnical soil borings to develop rock excavation cost estimates.

A licensed civil engineer in Minnesota and Wisconsin, Charlie has LEED project design experience. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Wisconsin–Platteville and pursued postgraduate studies in Geotechnical Engineering at the Illinois Institute of Technology. He is active in professional organizations, having provided leadership in the Minnesota Society of Professional Engineers (MSPE), National Association for Industrial and Office Properties (NAIOP) and the Society for Marketing Professional Services (SMPS).

We’re happy to have Charlie on our civil engineering team. His diverse project experience is supporting our current projects like reviewing grading plan and hydraulic calculations for a data center in Pine Island, a PUD submittal for redevelopment to a multi-building senior housing complex in Mankato, preparing proposals, and reviewing specifications.
