Construction continues on the City of Hibbing’s new Public Safety Building, a transformative project that will bring the City’s police, fire, and Emergency Medical Services departments together in one modern, centralized facility. Located on the site of the former Central Range Public Works Facility along the Highway 169 Beltline, the approximately $29 million project is anticipated to be completed by the end of 2026.
Bringing Emergency Services Together
Public safety facilities are more than buildings. They are operational hubs that support the people who protect and serve their communities every day. By creating a unified public safety campus, the City of Hibbing is investing in stronger communication between departments, improved emergency response coordination, and more efficient daily operations.
Co-locating police, fire, and EMS creates opportunities for shared training, better communication, and more efficient use of resources. It also provides first responders with a modern facility designed around today’s equipment, technology, and operational needs while allowing flexibility for future growth.
Designed for Today’s First Responders
The approximately 63,000-square-foot facility has been thoughtfully designed to meet the unique needs of each department while encouraging collaboration where it benefits operations. Features include a secure public entrance, underground police parking, a sally port and holding area, ambulance and fire apparatus bays, a multi-purpose training room, a hose training tower, bunk rooms, and a day room for emergency personnel.
These spaces will support daily operations while providing a safe, efficient, and functional environment for the first responders who serve the Hibbing community.
A Collaborative Project
Brunton Architects is leading the design of the facility, with Widseth as a local resource providing mechanical and electrical engineering, civil engineering, and landscape architecture services. Adolfson & Peterson Construction is serving as construction manager, helping bring years of planning and coordination into construction.
Looking Ahead
As construction progresses throughout 2026, the new Public Safety Center continues to take shape as a long-term investment in the City of Hibbing. Once complete, the facility will provide modern spaces that strengthen collaboration, improve operational efficiency, and support emergency services for generations to come.
