Valley Senior Living, a non-profit in Grand Forks, ND, is constantly looking for ways to improve the experience for its residents. Widseth has had the pleasure to work on 100+ projects across all of Valley’s facilities. In this video Valley Senior Living Administrator Gina Roller and Widseth Architect Alicia Fadley discuss some of the projects that have helped improve the experience for residents, staff, and visitors.

Roller talks about the neighborhood design concept at Valley Senior Living on Columbia and said, “The neighborhood concept strives to give the residents a sense of identity. All of our communities, or neighborhoods, are named after historic Grand Forks areas. That helps residents identify with local areas they may be familiar with.”

“A lot of residents can lose a sense of place when they never get to leave the facility and we wanted to give that back to them,” said Fadley. She discusses how the use of different materials in combination with certain design elements help make a space feel more like a home and less institutional. Roller said, “The entry remodel project creates a great first impression and new residents have said that it feels like home.”

“Widseth has been fantastic to work with. They have been very responsive and collaborative,” Roller said.

Designing spaces that are aesthetically pleasing and functional for residents, staff, and family members in a senior living facility is extremely important. We’ve learned a lot over the past two decades working with Valley Senior Living and look forward to helping you improve the experience for the residents in your facility.
